As a plastic surgeon, I thought I had reached the pinnacle of success.
I was interviewed on countless national television shows. I’d published two books, including The Age Fix, which became a national bestseller. I gave lectures at national plastic surgery meetings on the latest surgical techniques. And I had a long waiting list with patients desiring facelifts, tummy tucks, breast augmentations, and more.
It was everything I thought I wanted in my career.
Then it came crashing down.
I had a patient who had a horrible complication after a facelift. It was not my fault nor hers, but, when you have surgery, bad things can happen, even in the best of hands.
Her complication shattered me.
But it also caused me to re-look at what I was doing and the ENTIRE practice of plastic surgery.
I was always taught that the GOAL of plastic surgery was to bring people to the operating room-the bigger the operation, the better.
My patient’s complication made me realize that my goal should be the opposite. It should be to keep people OUT of the operating room.
I had to find a better way.
So how could I do that? How could I help people feel better about how they look without putting them under the knife?
I dedicated myself to figuring this out.
After years of research, I determined that the best route to true beauty and a youthful appearance lies in an integrative, holistic approach to turning back the clock-not the conventional approach which can jump to expensive and risky surgery too quickly.
The two foundations of this holistic approach are NUTRITION and SKIN CARE
Although the cornerstone of good nutrition is a healthy, balanced diet, appropriate, high-quality nutritional supplements can be a major supporter. Medical research suggests that the right supplements can nourish your skin from the inside out.
But skin health doesn’t just stop at nutrition.
Department stores, pharmacies, and even doctors’ offices are filled with skin care products that promise to tighten this, lift that, and even be better than Botox.
Many of these products are filled with potentially harmful ingredients and additives, like parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde releasers, and fragrances. Although these products may work to rejuvenate the skin, they may not be the best for your health long term.
On the other hand, many natural skin care product lines avoid these potentially harmful ingredients. But most of them don’t contain actual effective components, and they don’t make your skin look younger or healthier.
So you may feel you’ve had to choose between products that work but contain potentially harmful ingredients or products that are natural but don’t make your skin look any different after using them.
